There are 11 national-level ports and 9 provincial-level ports in Yunnan. The main ports are Kunming International Airport, Xishuangbanna International Airport, Ruili Land Port, Hekou Land Port, Tianbao Land Port, Mohan Land Port, Wanding Land Port, Jinghong Water Port, Simao Water Port and so on. Hekou Land Port is located in Hekou County, at the southernmost tip of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture. It is at the meeting of the Naxi River and Honghe River, and abuts Lao Cai Port in Vietnam. The number of passengers passing through Hekou port in 2002 amounted to 1.358 million persons and 669,700 tons of cargo was handled. Traffic through the port amounted to 18,000 vehicles. Ruili Land Port is situated in the west of Yunnan. Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture is linked with Myanmar on the southwest, southeast and northwest by common mountains and rivers and share a boundary line of 141.1km. Ruili is an important post on the ancient Southwest Silk Road and the end of the inter-provincial highway No. 320. It is the main port for Chinese trade with Myanmar and abuts Muse, the main port for Myanmar¡¯s trade with China. The annual number of persons passing through Ruili port is 4.36 million with a cargo volume of 475,000 tons. Traffic through the port was 386,000 vehicles.
Xishuangbanna International Airport is 4km from Jinghong city. The airport was designed to accommodate airplanes from Boeing 737 down. 11 domestic air routes from Jinghong have been opened, including Kunming, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Tianjin, Zhengzhou and Guangxi, and two international routes to Bangkok and Chiang Mai in Thailand. Kunming International Airport is one of the five Chinese airports which opened early to foreign airlines. It is located at Wujiaba in the southeast suburbs of Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, about 6.5km from Kunming¡¯s downtown area. Annual passenger handling capacity is planned to 7 million persons. Floor space of the newly built international passenger terminal is 14,000 square meters with 12 lanes for entry and exit procedures. Annual passenger handling capacity in the international passenger terminal is 580,000 persons and cargo capacity is 35,000 tons.
